Josh Allen, Kids art, and community

Winning on and off the field

Last Sunday, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen arrived at the stadium sporting something different: a custom New Era cap designed by a five-year-old patient at Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

It’s the first in a series of nine hats created by patients at the hospital. After each home game, the hat will be auctioned off to support the Patricia Allen Fund, named for Josh’s grandmother, with all proceeds benefiting kids in Western New York.

Not only was this a win for Buffalo, Josh Allen, and the kids, but it’s also a great reminder of what happens when creativity and community come together.

Something as simple as a hat design made from a child’s drawing becomes a kind of symbol for a city to rally behind. That’s the impact creative work can have.

It doesn’t have to be perfect or polished. It just has to connect. Share your work.

A great win for Buffalo indeed. And did I mention what a comeback on Sunday Night Football?

Random gadget I’m loving

A couple of months ago, I was watching a video by card magician Jeremy Tan sharing his day in the life as a magician on a cruise ship. What can I say, I’m a geek.

As he was going through some of the tech he travels with, he pulled out this little magnetic wallet he attaches to his phone. I had been looking for something like that, so I did a little reading on Amazon and decided to try it out.

I love it. Not only does it hold my driver’s license and necessary payment cards, it acts as a phone stand. When I’m working, I prop it up off to the side of my desk. When I’m cooking, I can have the recipe in front of me. When my kids take over the TV, I can watch the Commanders with my phone propped up on a side table.

It can also act as a mini tripod. If I wanted to record a selfie video, I wouldn’t have to switch equipment. I could just use the wallet. Super cool.

How about you? What’s a random purchase you’ve been loving lately?
